Introduction to archery

This introductory course is for all archers who wish to participate in any JOAD or other archery programs, or those who just wish to learn more about archery and begin practicing shooting with a bow.  Archers shoot under the guidance of multiple instructors at the WMAC Facility Indoor Shooting Range over a five week period. This course offer participants a chance to learn about archery, archery equipment, and the various types of archery shooting.

An introductory informational booklet, use of WMAC bows, arrows, and safety equipment, and a completion award are included in the course fees.

The minimum age for this class is 10 years old unless approved by an instructor prior to registration.

Minimum - 6 archers, maximum - 20 archers

Class Schedule:

Five consecutive weeks, 6:30 - 7:30pm. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start of class.

Spring: Thursdays, May 2 - May 30

Summer: Tuesdays, June 25 - July 23

Fall: Thursdays, August 22nd - September 19th

 

Introduction to Archery, Youth

This introductory course is for young archers who are interested in formal target archery programs, bowhunting or just wish to learn more about the sport. This program emphasizes safety, developing proper form and having fun. Archers shoot under the guidance of certified and background verified instructors at the WMAC Facility Indoor Shooting Range over a five week period. This course offer participants a chance to learn about archery, archery equipment, and the various types of archery shooting while enjoying a variety of fun targets.

An introductory informational booklet, use of WMAC bows, arrows, and safety equipment, completion award and inclusion in the session ending party are included in the course fees.

The recommended minimum age for this class is 10 years old. 8 & 9 year olds will require a safety evaluation by the Lead Instructor prior to registration. Contact Jerry Schondelmayer at 616-836-0025 to setup an evaluation.

Minimum - 6 archers, maximum - 12 archers

Class Schedule:

Five consecutive weeks, 6:00-6:50 or 7:00-7:50. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start of class. Please select a time when registering.

JOAD LEAGUE

JOAD Core & Advanced Training Teams

This program is structured as a foundational practice time. Archers will primarily work on their core archery skills, building confidence within the sport and themselves.

Our Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Adult Archery programs are affiliates of the archery education programs of USA Archery. Our coaches are certified through USA Archery, and we participate in their archer recognition programs. Youth and adults share the archery range during this program, as the coaching and support are fundamentally the same.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time to set up equipment.

Cost: $100 for members, $150 for non members except league which is $100 for all.

SCHOLASTIC 3D ARCHERY - INdoor/Outdoor/3D

Scholastic 3D Archery (S3DA) is an afterschool initiative that can be run by schools, archery shops, and archery clubs. Students should have a completed the intro to archery class and have a basic skill level, desiring to build on those skills through continued development and competition. Classes are open to students ages 8-18.

Adaptive Archery Clinic

In Association with Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports and Kentwood Parks and Recreation.

In partnership with Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports and Kentwood Parks and Recreation, West Michigan Archery Center is excited to offer seasonal clinics for participants with physical and cognitive disabilities. Come out and learn about the inclusive sport of archery.  

 

LEVEL 1 (USA ARCHERY) INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CLASS

The Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Class provides the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety when running the archery range, for the enjoyment of the sport of archery, for the safety of the participants, spectators, and coaches.

Bowhunter Education Certification Class

Designed by the National Bowhunter Education Foundation, you will earn your bow hunter certification card from the NBEF, explore many aspects of hunting including scouting, shot placement, and tracking.

Private Coaching Session

Are you looking to take your skills to the next level? Want to give archery a try before committing to a class? Maybe a structured class is not a good fit for your special situation. Please contact us to set up a session with one of our USA Archery Level III instructors for a private lesson.  

Pricing: $50/hour Equipment rental: $10 per session.
